THE 26TH LIGERS COMPETITION
TASTE THE VERY BEST OF THE LOIRE !
Since 1995, the Ligers competition for the Loire Valley wines, has been jointly organized by the Union of Loire Valley Oenologues and Destination Angers, organiser of the Loire Valley Wine Trade Fair.
It has been rewarding the best wines of the Loire Valley for the past 25 years.
The competition takes place on the eve of the opening of the Loire Valley Wine exhibition (Salon des Vins de Loire). In 2022, on Sunday 30th of January.
The competition is open to all Loire Valley wines, produced or marketed by vintners, cooperative wineries and wine merchants whether or not they are represented in the exhibition.
A real showcase for the wines of the Loire Valley, the competition for the Ligers Trophy brings together more than 2557 wines representing the great diversity of appellations and "terroirs" all along the Loire, from Clermont Ferrand to Nantes.
The awards (Gold, Silver and Bronze Ligers) are decided by a team of eminent judges, including wine professionals and enlightened amateurs, presided by an Oenologue, according to a rigorous tasting methodology.
Each award-winning wine benefits from a detailed commentary and earns the right to include a Ligers medal on its label, thereby earning a valuable distinction in the supermarket aisles and with the wine retailers.
Each year, over 4 million award-winning bottles bearing the "Ligers" stamp can be found on the shelves of supermarkets and retailers. Buyer demand continues; the awards are both a reassuring benchmark for the consumer and a real tool for sale.

The "Palais des Ligers", situated this year at the entrance of the Loire Valley Wine exhibition allows visitors to discover and taste the newly awarded "Gold Liger" wines.
The quality of the award winners is ensured by random controls which take place after the competition in order to guarantee analytical and organoleptic conformity between the wines presented at the competition and the commercial bottled and stored wines.
